Our Mission
PureBasket was created with a simple goal: give families the information they need to make confident choices about imported food. In an era of global food supply chains, it's increasingly difficult to know what's really in the food you buy — especially when it's imported from halfway around the world.
We believe every consumer has the right to know whether their dairy products come from farms using Bovaer (3-NOP) feed additives, whether their salmon was raised on GMO feed, or whether their imported snacks contain insect-derived ingredients that aren't clearly labeled.
🧺 Our name "PureBasket" (纯篮) represents our vision: a clean shopping basket filled with products you can trust. The basket is both the emotional and visual heart of our app — because your shopping basket should be a source of confidence, not worry.
What We Do
PureBasket is a free mobile app and web platform that combines three powerful tools:
1. Food Safety Scanner
Scan any barcode on an imported food product and get instant risk analysis. Our rule-based engine checks the product against multiple risk categories:
- Bovaer (3-NOP) — A methane-reducing feed additive approved in the EU but controversial in Asia. We track brands linked to farms using Bovaer.
- GMO Feed — Many fish farms and livestock operations use genetically modified feed. We identify brands and countries with high GMO feed usage.
- Insect-Based Ingredients — Cricket flour, mealworm protein, and black soldier fly larvae are increasingly used in food products. We detect these ingredients even when labels are unclear.
- Banned Additives — We check against China's national food safety standard GB 2760-2024, flagging additives that are banned or restricted in different markets.
- GMO Crop Ingredients — Direct detection of genetically modified soy, corn, canola, and other crop-derived ingredients commonly found in processed foods.
2. Meal Planner with 60+ Recipes
Plan your entire week of meals with one tap. Choose your budget level (economy, normal, or premium), dietary preferences, and number of servings. Our recipe collection spans Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Thai, Middle Eastern, Italian, and Western cuisine — all using ingredients you can verify for safety.
3. Smart Shopping List
Build shopping lists that automatically show risk badges next to brands linked to Bovaer or GMO. Share lists with family via WeChat, LINE, KakaoTalk, or any messaging app. The shopping list is designed for daily use — helping you stay organized while staying informed.
Our Data Sources
PureBasket draws on trusted, open data sources:
- Open Food Facts — The world's largest open food product database, with data on over 3 million products from around the world. We use their barcode database and ingredient lists for product identification.
- TheMealDB — An open recipe database that powers our meal planning feature with international recipes.
- GB 2760-2024 — China's national food safety standard for food additive usage, which forms the basis of our additive risk analysis.
- Published Research — Our Bovaer and GMO feed brand lists are compiled from published industry sources, company disclosures, and regulatory filings.
Transparency note: PureBasket provides risk information based on publicly available data. We are not a regulatory authority. Our risk analysis is designed to help consumers make informed decisions, and we always encourage users to verify information with official food safety authorities in their region.
